Frequently asked questions

What level should I aim for?

Pluck a string about 20 to 40 cm from the microphone. The level bar should move well past the middle without the peak meter reaching the top. If it clips, move the instrument away or lower the interface gain.

What does browser processing mean?

Browsers can apply echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain for calls. These change the sound and can make a tuner less steady. HeyTuner asks for all three to be off; this test shows whether your browser agreed.

Is my audio recorded?

No. The test and the tuner analyse sound on this device only. Nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded. See the privacy policy.

How do I use a USB audio interface?

Connect it, start the test once so the browser can show device names, then pick it in the input menu. The electric guitar tuner uses the same input list in its settings.
